Most people who move to Taiwan stay for a semester. I stayed for six years — and I'm still not done.
Hi, I’m Antoine.
I’m from Belgium, and I lived in Taiwan for more than six years.
I first landed in Taipei in 2016 with a student visa and a very basic grasp of Mandarin. What started as a one-year language programme at National Taiwan University turned into a Master's degree, a career, and a life I genuinely didn't want to leave.
I didn't experience Taiwan as a tourist. I navigated visas and bureaucracy in Chinese, worked full-time at a local Taiwanese start-up where I was often the only foreigner in the room, dealt with real cultural misunderstandings, and slowly — sometimes awkwardly — built a network that was more local than international. I outgrew the expat bubble tea a long time ago.
Today I spend my time helping people make the same journey I did — but with fewer wrong turns. Whether you're a student weighing up language schools, a professional exploring job opportunities, or someone who just wants an honest picture of what life in Taiwan actually looks like, I know what questions to ask and which answers actually matter.
